    Default Antler Recoloring

Well, my dad found a nice 150" 5x5 this year when we were out hunting. It had dead for about 2 years and lost most of its color, and had no cracks in it, so we picked it up. Today i completed the coloring of it. It looks awesome. I used a gelled wood stain, with 3 coats of 3 different colors, and its flawless. im pretty proud of myself. im gonna put it on a plaque now and surprise him for christmas. the prefect christmas gift for him.

How the chipmunks and other small rodents never got to it in two years is beyond me. Good deal. Thanks for sharing.

In the past, I have used Kiwi Brown shoe polish to bring the color back to bleached antlers.

I know folks that adhere fervently to the theory that what a buck rubs with his antlers determine their color. Hand those folks an antler and tell them, "You can take this sun-bleached antler and rub any tree you like. When you can prove what kind of tree causes what color. Come back and see me."

Sounds like you had a more practical idea

I've used jelled wood-stain before too and it dies work really well. You just have to play with different colours untill you get what your looking for.

    Let's see some picks eh
