Default Pattern pics! Finally one I can handle

One problem though.....my gun shoots left!! What can I do?? (I compensated on the pics shown below) Do you think cleaning it would change anything? Is there a chance cleaning could make my pattern worse?

    Rem. 870, Winchester Supreme 3", 1 3/4oz, 6 shot.

    20 yards (hit a little low...I think he's dead though )

30 yards (I pulled this one right....I felt it before I even checked my target. Nice pattern though)

40 yards (I figured out I need to aim at the head instead of mid-neck at 40 yards....my whole pattern was low, but consistant. The shot shown MAY not have killed the bird, but I now know what to do )

Hasting's .665 turkey choke. I thought about rear sights, and may end up doing that. Maybe I should get a scope.......hmmmmmm..........

I like those targets you are using, where did you get them from?

My buddy brought them actually. He got them from our local dealer....$6 for 6 of them!!! (too expensive for my blood, but they are cool...) Looks like they are sponsered by Federal Ammunition, and they have "Xray Targets" at the top. Good luck!

I'd also try #5 shot. I know my the .665 hasting liked a heavier payload of #5 shot more than #6(but every gun is different). It liked the Federal 2 oz loads or the Win. Supremes more than the lighter HV loads. Just a thought.

Also ditto on the sights, red dot or scope. If your pattern was centered it would be more than adequate.

I run one of those new cleaning ropes thru my barrel after each shot. Nitroammo.com says each shell shot should have the same clean barrel. You could add Tru Glo adjustable sights to take care of the aiming problem. Cleaning probably won't take care of the adjustment issue, just insures accurate test results for each shell. I don't think that 40 yarder would kill the bird

Even if I aimed higher???? Did you see what I said just above that pic??

Borch- Are you talking about the Fed. Flight Control wads in the red box? #5's? I plan on trying more, but dang this is getting expensive. I bought a tru-glo sight, so I'll shoot some bird shot just to sight it in.

I believe that 40 yarder would put him down....but ur gun is capable of better. I would try a 2 oz load of the supremes or fed FC. Good patterns tho!

I was refering to the old federal turkey premium 2 oz loads or the Winchester supreme 2 oz loads. They're a bit cheaper as well when you find them.

There's so many different options out there now. But I've seen better patterns with that choke with the 5s in 3 different guns. But like I said. If you get the gun to center the pattern then that pattern should shoot well enough to kill most turkeys. But you'll want to get it there and try it just to make sure. It's really hard to get a feeling for the pattern density unless you hold the target up to a light and let the holes light up.

You want to get a good even pattern through out the head and neck. Lethal hits are nice. But you want to make sure that there aren't any big holes. All the bird has to do is move it's head a bit and the lethal area moves.

Good Luck! Hope your shoulder holds up.
