    Default One For a Friend

OK guys...I took a friend of mine out today for his 2nd turkey hunt ever. His first was rained out last week.

We set up under a low hanging oak at 0545 on the anticipated flock path for the morning. I've been patterning the birds for a week to ensure my friend, Greg, got a good bird. Wouldn't ya know it? They decided to land in another field within 100 yards of us and go the other way. Gobbler's law of turkey hunting relativity I guess.

I tried bossing the lead hen around but she didn't care. She simply led the Tom in another direction. When he started to respond to my call she would conveniently postion herself to the rear yet between us. Unbelievable.

Once the flock was out of sight, I grabbed Greg and we high tailed it around the hill to a small saddle that I knew they would have to cross. We sat down just in time to see the lead hen pop her head over the horizon. She didn't like something becasue she popped a few times and led the flock up the hill across from us. Didn't matter, though. 5-6 more hens passed by followed by a very nice Tom. Greg took him at about 35 yards with a Benelli 3.5" and #4 HevyShot. The feathers are a little ragged looking because he was soaking wet.

    Here are the photos:

That is a good story and i bet you felt good when you saw that gobbler come over that hill and not follow that lead gobbler.

Nice bird you can't really beat that for a first hunt
