I have heard a hen will leave her nest at night and roost in a tree. But, I have also heard a hen will remain on the eggs during the cold night. What does she do?

Until she's layed her full clutch, she does leave the nest and fly up. Once her clutch has been laid, she stays on the nest all day and night only to leave for water. Perculiar thing, while she's laying and leaves, she covers up the nest to hide from predators. Once the clutch is laid and she's sittin' 24/7 and goes for water, she does not cover up the nest. I've always thought that was strange.
Thank Ya RedBeard! Hopefully I may see a nest this year. Hunted for 6 years and haven't seen one yet.
I've found a few over the years. Last year I found an egg right smack dab in the middle of a dirt loading dock. No nesting material or nothin' was around. Was like she was just walkin' and dropped that sucker. Funny.............
Hey Redbeard, maybe she forgot to close the door, you think?
I thought that hens layed eggs in the trees???? LOL, just kidding.
