    Default Double Barrel shotguns

My question is simple does anyone use side by side double barrel shotguns anymore? I would really like to kill a turkey with one of these. So if anyone has any suggestions on who makes a good DB let me know.. Thanks guys!

Well first off you should find one that will accomodate a screw in choke. Alot of the old side by sides have differently choked barrels. I understand folks who say you don't need one and have killed a couple of birds without them myself. But they do help a guns pattern alot. Turkey chokes are worth the money.

Second side by sides rarely throw the center of the pattern in the same location out of each barrel. Not a big deal wing shooting but very important for shooting a big tom. You will need to pattern both barrels separately and know where the center of each one hits.

I killed my very first turkey with a stevens double barrel. It has a 28inch barrels mod on the right side and full choke on the left.It shoots the fed load of 3inch 1oz 15/16 load very well.I quickly graduated to a Benelli Nova 3 1/2.

I plan on using my Dad's Ithaca SXS-----he passed away this January---81 years young. It has a full choke & mod choke. He killed turkeys with no reason I can't. I would suggest you look for a used gun. Ithaca, Fox, Stevens--are some that come to mind. Don't know about any modern guns.
My wife uses my o/u as her gun. Full choke works fine. I for one am no sold on the "turkey Chokes"----a full choke works just fine out to 40 yards. I've killed more birds at 25 yards than I have at 40. Call them in close !!!

If you want to tote about 12 lbs around, try a American Arms Double Ten. Comes with full chokes and patterns like a dream with sixes. I carried one for several years til I traded it to a bud so he could turkey hunt. Wish I still had it. Killed several birds

My next turkey gun will be Heckler and Kock's side by side twelve, with screw in chokes. Full on the right, imp on the left for the short range birds.
