Well after I got home from school and had something to eat(because college students are alwaysh ungry, lol), I decided to go look for turkeys even though it was pouring rain and about 40 degrees. I got my rain gear on, took the binocs, and owl call, and one of our dogs. I saw nothing in the first fields, found some tracks in the mud next to a creek and the old remains of a turkey(stupid coyotes/foxes) and then saw a hen in a plowed field. Last week I had a gobbler fired up and he was by himself on land I don't hunt, this time it is a hen by herself...what's going on? I did fine what looked to be gobbler dropping on a ridge so hopefully there is a gobbler around. I know there are turkeys around but why is it so hard to find any sign? It has been pouring rain still but if it isn't tomorrow morning, I'll get up early and hit the woods to listen for gobbles. 1 week to go from Sunday and I really want to get ab ird this year! Does anyone know why I'm not seeing alot of fresh scrtachings in the woods? Are the turkeys doing most of their feeding in the fields or something? Oh yeah, and on the opposite side of the land I hunt, where one farmer's land borders up to this one, this guy is logging, again, and I'm wondering how this is going to affect the turkeys....any suggestions?
