    Default Loudmouth gobbler........

I've been hunting a couple of longbeards on a friend of mine's farm for the past 4 days. The one I was after this morning gobbled 95 times! He only gobbled once on the roost, flew down to a logging road and just started hammering every time he heard a crow. I was setup in his strutting zone in a section of a field where I've watched him strut and gobble for over an hour straight 3 of the past 5 mornings. I've been trying to ambush him without calling as he won't come in to the calling. He's one of those nasty old gobblers that wants the hen to come to him. Unfortunately, for some reason he didn't want to come out into the field today and stayed just inside the woods gobbling his head off about 90-100 yds. from me . I managed to get in on him and worked him for a little while...he was fired up...but as usual he wouldn't commit and come in. Every morning I'll set up where he was the previous day but he doesn't ever seem to do the same thing twice in a row. I have a new setup planned for him tomorrow as he's really starting to irritate me. I guess I can't complain too much...he and his buddy from across the road have gobbled 210+ times over the past 4 mornings. Not too bad for this late in the season .

I hope you're able to get him. He should be a dandy bird!

Good luck, sounds like one of those that will haunt you. Try doing the opposite from what experience has dictated as your next move. You might wanna try call while leavin' the bird too and then sneekin back. I hate those toms. Good luck, hope you bag him.

Yes, it is late in the season. I hope these birds aren't done gobbing because I am going out this weekend...

Try gobbling or a fighting purr. If he comes he will be silent and looking for a fight. Good luck and give it 45 minutes after you want to get up .

    Hurt his pride.

I'd get him gobbling so he loses his breath then I'd shut up on him. No matter how bad you wanna call again........don't do it!! Just sit back and wait for him to make the next move. Dollars to donuts he does.

Good luck! Let us know what happens! Wish I could have some action around my part of the NY woods.
