    Default 2005 Spring Season Closure

I know we make tons of memories out in the woods and outdoors each year. What is your fondest memory of this past 2005 spring turkey season?

I have a tie. 1. Having a heard of elk run right past me in South Dakota-got it on film too. 2. When my Dad and I were belling crawling on top of a ridge on a gobbler and he farted and the gobbling stopped Way to go Dad....lol

Well, I only went out twice, so my season was anything but memorable ...but I would have to say taking my girlfriend hunting for the first time and seeing her face when see saw two struting Toms (which were about 120 yards away )

The two birds I got top the list for sure but laughin' with Whitehead and walkin' his legs off sure was fun too. Neither him or me will forget the "Wonder what dun it story" Also enjoyed my hunt with my 17 year old daughter and when she came upon the hen that would not leave.

I'd say the show that the remaining gobblers put on after I shot my gobbler. They gobbled their heads off and stomped all over my gobbler. Cool show!

My first would be getting my first Rio on the last day i could hunt. I was pumped so much because i missed one about 4 days before that.

Second would be hearing at least 2 dozen birds gobbling within 500 yards of me.

Hard to say which one was the most memorable. It's sort of a tie between the 1st bird I killed when my rookie young buddy decided he wanted to just video a turkey hunt to see what it was all about. He sure found out too. 2 weeks later he got his 1st gobbler ever with me. Now he's hooked for life. A great young man with a passion for the outdoors. It really made my season to see someone like him discover a passion for turkey hunting.

A close 3rd was a mature looking buck that came slowly feeding through the woods the day my buddy killed his 1st bird too. That buck came within 15 feet of us and never made us out. He had recently shed his antlers and still had the red spots on his head showing.

Man i have some awesome memories from this past season, all have made there mark but the one that tops them all would have to be . . .
    - traveling to the tip of Florida and taking my first Osceola on one of the most pressured, hard to hunt WMA's in all the states while the birds were not cooperating for anyone and during a bad year as they say. Nothing like hunting in those swamps and palmettos!

    Others include. . .
    - having my brother tag along on opening day to watch me pound a nice bird a minute after his feet hit the ground. Bird gobbled more than anyone could ask for and we were within 70 yards the whole time.
    - Sitting tight against a big blackjack tree in the middle of a wide open pasture for 2 hours while 4 hens (one bearded) and the big boy eased to me ever so slowly. During this time i watched a coyote sneak up on them only to get spotted and give up. They continued on there path straight to the gun barrel.
    - Killing my first double beard right off the roost who was accompanied by another gobbler. What makes this so special is my dad and cousin had been fooling with these birds for 3 weeks, it took me 10 mintues to put one in the bag! LoL Sometimes it just works! Also left birds gobbling that morning as i started bicycliing my way out of the deep public land honey hole.
    - Having things come together after bicycling back into a WMA in 40+ mph winds and rain, for my dad. We just sat up hoping for the best, wind died for a minute. . . my first calls were answered from 100 yards and he gobbled at every call afterwards and ran directly into our laps. Put on a GREAT show and my dad got his best bird to date!

ah there are so many more. . . . but i'll spare you guys!

I have a tie also. I called in 2 Toms really late in the season and another time when I called in a Jake and a hen while chipmunk hunting.

I have three that all are a tie. It would have to be taking 3 different new hunters out and calling a tom into all of them and they each got there first bird

For me it was spending another spring in the woods with my son. Working birds was just a bonus.
