Studid question on turkey sightings.

I say studid becuase it really is but...
If your seeing tons of turkey out in the fields in mid winter, will that be a good sign from them being there, those exact feilds, in the spring?
Or do they have wintering grounds or yard up like deer yard up in small localized spots and are devoid almost everywhere else?

not necessarily the same exact fields, but in the general area most likely.

Birds have habbits and they tend to follow the habbits every year....take Texas for example...find a roost tree today...they'll more than likely roost there for years to come...take the birds behind my house...they are there right now..but as season comes in...they move to a farm about a 1/2 mile away...there are fields there and better strutting zones..

I've been wondering this same thing.....
Been turkey hunting this same area for a couple of years with no luck.....
Tracks, sign, just no birds to shoot at.....LOL

This fall, during deer bow season, I hunted the neighboring land for the first time.....Saw 4 turkeys, one litterally had his beard dragging the ground....

I am comfortable saying that within 75yds, I know where they were roosting.....

Will they be there this spring?????

Shawn, living in this area, you see birds in the fields for 2 reasons right now........they can still find bits of corn in the snow, and the farmers are spreading manure for the spring planting.........we don't call them ****pickers for nothing.

It must be the corn since my father-in-law does not spread in the winter. LOL

Food sources determine where the birds will be each season. If the food source stays the same each year the birds will return. If there is a change they will go and find a better source if necessary.

So hopefully everything will be the same but you never know what the birds will do just to spite the turkey hunter.
