Default What tells you to set up that blind in advance?

I have a nice blind to hunt out of now for turkeys (and deer) and was wondering what sort of sign tells you to "set it up here" vs down the feild edge, etc.?
I know I have birds around, I hear then at times, and have had sightings, but they are not there "everytime" out, and certainly not very vocal.

My property is small (100 acres) and adjacent properies are off limits, so I can't chase them or follow distant gobbles.

when i used to blind hunt it was because of the fact that i would see them in the same areas, may not of been everyday but i knew they were close ....now i go to the gobble if not i'll set up where i have seen them before....

I stay a long ways off and watch the birds in the spring. If there is a certain tree or other object they pass by often, they I set up there. Or, if I find a spot that they ALWAYS roost in, I'll set the blind up near that. I don't like blind hunting for turkeys unless it is bowhunting. I like to stay as mobile as I can.

Excellent, then there's no reason why we can't land you the big bird you want.

I'm thinking we might leave theblind behind and run and gun with the shotgun first, then the blind can come out if you decide to try the bow.

I'd watch the field a couple weeks before the opener as much as you can. I have the perfect story for your situation.

I hunt a field that is huge, probably about 400 yards wide. 1/3 is cut corn stalks, 1/3 (the middle) is grass, and the other 1/3 is dirt.

I set up a decoy in the corn thinking that pick through there looking for food only to have the birds land in the dirt that morning to dig for grubs, worms etc...

The next time I went out it was raining and I set up off the dirt field only to have them fly out into the grass to pick the at the insects that came out because of the rain.

I never saw birds in the cut corn like I thought, I wish I would have scouted first, instead I had to learn during the season which kept me skunked last year (only got out those two times.)
