I recently went to a jobsite in Bluejacket, Ok (the NE corner of the state). On the way there I saw about 40 turkeys on the right hand side of the road. We went about 1/8th mile and saw at least the many on the left. I couldnt believe it. We have a few turkeys around here but NOTHING like that.
We made it out to the job and I worked out some problems. I mentioned to the guy that I had seen around 100 turkeys. "Theyre like that around here. My son puts out feeders for his cattle every morning and around 50 or more show up just to eat what the cows drop." He then proceded to tell me I could hunt turkeys any time. I was excited but took it lightly. We left and started on our way back. We made it roughly 6 miles on a different road and we saw another flock crossing the road. They were like cows. We literally had to split them with the truck. I know and can honestly say there was easily 100+. I couldnt believe it. I snapped a pic with my cell phone but it didnt come out well. They finally split and flew behind us landing off to the side in another field. As we watched they continued to come out of the timber. I havent seen that many geese at the local park. It was amazing. There were literally well over 100 and im not stretching that a bit.
I got excited and called the guy back to tell him what we just saw. I then asked, "Seriously, is there a cheap lease I can find up here."
"I told you, call my son. Here, right his number down and I will call him and say Dad said you could hunt!"
I am going to call this weekend! Ive never, ever had a chance at turkeys like this. Ive seen a couple at a time while hunting but ive never seen anything like this other then on tv! My brother will probably go to run the camera!
Come on April!![]()
