Every gun is different...I could buy a new 1187 with the next serial number and shoot alot different than your gun. Its really hard for anyone to tell you what choke and shells to spend your money on and get good results.
I'm sure you'll get alot of responses of what works in their guns...but that doesn't mean it will work in yours.
Sorry, I know that didn't help much.

snapper is right on the mark. I know that doesn't help you much but like snapper said, every gun is different. I have an older 1187 that patterns great with a Rhino choke and I went through 2 other chokes prior to using that one. Another friend of mine has the same shotgun that patterns great with a different choke.

If you have several friends that have different chokes for their Remington shotguns you might try some of those instead of taking the more expensive route like I did.

BTW, one of the chokes that didn't pattern very well out of my 1187 patterned fine in my son's 870 so it wasn't a total bust. My son upgraded to a new shotgun a couple of years ago so I keep the 870 handy as a backup in case of mechanical failure to my weapon of choice, or one of my turkey hunting buddies for that matter. I haven't had to rely on the backup shotgun yet but one of my turkey hunting buddies did. He left his house and forgot his shotgun. Made for an interesting conversation with his wife later that morning.

I also shoot Hevishot .I have found that the hevishot does not like to be squeezed down through a super tight choke.I use a H.S tube 0.675 and they work great.Like everyone has stated no gun shoots the same.I do think that an aftermarket choke would help.Look at the winners of the NWTF shooting comp and see what they use.
