Default All who use 870 express for turkey?

Curious what chokes if any you put on your 870 express? I'm going to have to use this gun for turkeys this spring before I can get something specialized. It comes with the factory choke in it which I think is medium. I know people who just use this gun with no choke and kill birds. Would anyone give input on what chokes you use on your 870 and how they perform. By the way I'm shooting 3in turkey loads #5's

Don't get your heart set on any particular load until you try a bunch out. Be prepared to shell some money too!

I got my best results with a Hastings choke tube. I hear good stuff about Comp-N-Choke, but they're kinda pricey.

My father uses the same gun and load with a remington extended turkey choke. Like all other tubes it works ok at 30 yds but I would go the extra money and buy a better tube.

I have a 870 and put a TruGlo .665 choke on it and killed a bird at 40+ yards, Federal 3" shells with #5.
Personally I feel the size is more important then who makes it.
Got mine from Walmart of around $15.

I say 40+ since he was running dead away from me when I pounded him in the back of the head. He was going for flight and I got-em right beforme lift off. LOL.
Vtbowhunter was there and saw the whole thing.

Gotta disagree with that one. Shot 3 birds last year, all over 40 yards (one at 49 yards, the other 2 in the neighborhood of 45) with 6's because they patterned better than the 5's. You think about it, there is only a .01" difference in each shot size. Just the 6's get a lot more pellets in there *with the right combination.* (some 5's will pattern better in some guns).

Now, I don't recommend shooting turkeys that far, and I got really lucky, but in the heat of the moment, my yardage judging went all to pot....

The star-dot shot the best on my gun.

    I shoot 3.5" Winchester HV #4's.Better than the mad max,factory turkey,undertaker,hevi-shot undertaker(with various hevi shot sizes),or kicks..

Even though the kicks gave it a run for it's money.Price was my deciding factor.I couldn't see paying 40 more dollars for a choke that had 2-3 less hits in a 10" circle @40yds.

The star-dot only cost $20 IF you can find them.If not I would suggest a kicks .665 with #5's.I have no experience with comp-n-choke.Hope I helped.

I was refering to choke size not shot size. LOL
I agree with you on shot size.
Gotta match the size to what your gun likes.
    Plain and simple.

    Choke sizes too.
But given the same choke size, I dont really see spending a ton if you can get it in the same size cheaper.
Your buying a name if so...

Not sure what brand I know its a xxxful choke made by remington and I use usually 5 or 6 shot 3in and I have taken turkeys up to 40yds but the heavy shot works really well. I have been using High Velocity loads made by Winchester.

I used to use an express, until I learned that a different brand of gun fit me much better. Any way I used an HS strut undertaker tube. It did fine.

I've got an 870 Express Magnum, have killed 9 birds with it the past 4 years. I think you'll be happy with an Undertaker, with just about any load. Some will be a little better than others but I've never found a load that doesn't pattern well enough to suit me yet. I used Hevi-Shot in the past, now I use Federal Mag-Shok Flitecontrol #5's, 3".

I use a Tru Glo super full turkey choke and Rem. Duplex 4x6 in my 870 express mag.
I really like this combination but everyone and every gun is different.
When I first started I was using a Remington super full turkey choke and it performs good to out to 40 yrds.
