    Default Best Turkey hunting State...

Just my opinion but I have to say Indiana. We have beautiful terrian, and plenty of longbeards.

I'd say Alabama is right up there although toms on state on land are the smartest I've seen...

Michigan has really ripened up - I think there's good state management with a bag limit of 1...

Ive only hunted Georgia and Texas. Im may be a little biased in my opinion but i love Texas. When you have more than 2 dozens gobblers sounding off within hearing distance you cant help but love it. Not to mention they arent call shy.

Well, you would have a hard time beating Western NY, but if I were to choose one place I would go with Missouri.

Missouri is suppose to have the largest population, but I'll have to pick Georgia of course.

Missouri is hard to beat, If only Texas had more public land it would be the best. Pa has to be the worst, if a turkey gobbles there are 9 guys trying to call to him....

Sounds like (with the exception of Wigs) y'all are making a pitch for your home state. It's hard to beat the spring turkey hunting here in MS. We have a 48 day spring season, 3 mature gobbler bag limit, with 7 day a week all day hunting, along with a great turkey population.

However, instead of making a pitch for my home state as the best state I have another choice based on more than just killing turkeys. With that said my most enjoyable and memorable spring turkey hunting experiences have been hunting in the Rockies of northern New Mexico. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. To me, Merriam turkeys are about the most beautiful turkeys of the 4 subspecies we have available in the states to hunt. If you've never been to the mountains to hunt Merriams, you ought to go at least once in your life.

If i could hunt'em all (which i plan to do eventually) i'd like'em all! I believe that every state would have it's own unique landscape and scenery that would make them 'the best' at the moment.

I'd have to say the best state to hunt turkeys would be the one I was standing in at the moment with a shotgun, a call and a valid tag.
