    Default Turkeys in the Rain

Hey guys, Im only 19 and I havent had much experience hunting turkeys. How do you guys hunt for turkeys in the rain. I usually find a field and sit in a blind and just try to wait them out. What do you guys think? Thanks.

A blind in the rain is about the best way to put any time into turkey hunting ... when you set your blind up its best to use your scouting to place it we go out the weekend before find where they are roosting and try and get the blind as close to where they pitch out ... remember that they will probably pitch out a little later since its raining so give em some time ... and soft calling ... nothing to harsh in the rain ... get into the blind early and be patient.

Well young grasshopper. You have got the right idea. I have killed my share of them in the rain. Don't be afraid to do some lite calling and walking. I did this last year and struck a gobbler less than 50 yds on a hill side. Be warned they stink something awfull when they are wet..

Rainy days will not be the morning you dream of with toms hammerin' from every limb but they can often be the days that fill you tag. Birds come out in the open during the rain. I've got several farms that i hunt and i bounce b/t the pastures checking the fields, more times than not there will be a longbeards following his harem around in the open. Lots of turkeys have died due to their predictability on a wet day.

To be perfectly honest I don't hunt much in the rain anymore. I used to but I'm a bit spoiled since I can choose most of my hunting days based on the weather conditions. If it's on a weekend, I'll usually wait until it stops raining and head out to try to raise a gobbler close to fields the birds like to use. If it's on a weekday I'll just pick and choose the fair weather days to turkey hunt and work on the rainy days.

If you can be out there right after it rains it is usually pretty good. last year i was hunting in Georgia and it rained for a day and a half. The next morning the birds were on fire!!
