I would just take it back and clean it at home. That's what I always do. Keep something over your bird if you throw him in the back of a truck to keep the wind from screwing up the feathers (jacket, turkey vest, etc...) I just breast mine out and get the legs. Best way to do it is hang them upside down and breast them out.

Yep and hoot and holler while doing the Mexican hat dance too.

I keep some gallon zip loc bags handy to breast mine out and then put them in an ice chest. The sooner you can get the meat cooled down the better. A turkey's normal temperature is pretty high to begin with. Even if you can't wash them off, it's best to get the meat cooled down ASAP and you can do any additional clean up when you get home.

Do what Red stated, then give a loud Wa-Hoo. Don't be in a hurry to get out of the woods. Take a few moments to reflect on the hunt, set back and admire your trophy.

Take a camera out in the woods with ya, take time to snap a few pics. when your bird gets heavy while carrying him, take a break and set up for a few pics of him while your catching your breath. Be creative , lay your gun down, drape his beard over your gun, lay a call or two by him.....enjoy the moment, like redbeard said , thank the lord for the opportunity, and pray for our troops .

I do most of my turkey hunting a few hours up the road from you in Madison County. Plus I have been doing this for 20+ years so I am familiar with what the weather is like. I wouldn't worry about leaving the bird a few hours but don't leave it out in the hot sun!!! I will hunt with two other guys and if someone kills a bird we will tag it and put it in the garage. Then we take off to go get one for the other guys. I may not clean my bird till after I eat my lunch at noon. Keep the meat out of the hot sun and rinse the breasts well after filleting the bird. Then put them on ice or in the fridge. Good luck on May 1st
