    Default Georgia Hunting Question

I was just wondering if anyone new any good public land to hunt in Georgia? I have tried to contact a few Georgia government agencies to get some town names near Allen Creek WMA or Wilson Shoals WMA, but no one got back to me. If any one new where these 2 WMA's were located (town names), it would be greatly appreciated.

I've heard Fort Stewart was a pretty sweet place to go.

Gainesville is close to Allen Creek, and Wilson shoals.

I am from Southeast Ga.I have been hearing gobbling since Feb 17th.,which was my first trip to listen. They have been hitting it real hard in the last week.Especially Sunday. It was 60 sunday morning..high mid 80's.We had a cold front come in Tuesday..got down into the 30's Tues. night, back up to 65 today.42 in the morning...I'm going to go listen in the morning again.

From my experience when they start gobbling they don't stop until May or June. They take little breaks, but one will be gobbling somewhere.

Down here if you aren't hearing a bird...you need to listen somewhere else. However there are the tight-lipped tough gobblers around too...

Well.......I am in 2D, also. So "out my way" is "your way."

I haven't heard any, personally. But, then again, I haven't tried. I have had a couple different guys tell me they heard birds last Saturday morning.

Try the Chattahoocee Forest. Not sure you will like Wilson Shoals. Wilson Shoals is also quota at the start of the season. Only one bird killed there last year. It's off I-985, near the prison.

Well,37 degrees here this morning, and walked right up on a bird at 5:30 am this morning.Hammering it in the moonlight! That's a good 30 minutes before the crack of daylght. He was roosted over water. He flew down on an island 140yds away from me(about 40yds from where he was roosted),and I sat there listening to him for over an hour.He was double, and triple gobbling.I never heard any hens.I think this is a different bird than the one I have been listening to.The other Tom has been with hens since mid Feb.,and I just couldn't imagine him being this lonely.I think this is a 2 yr old.Hopefully I can figure something out to get him to come onto land so my wife can get him.Oh,well...Just letting you know they are still hitting it hard. This has got to be the most early gobbling I have heard in a long time.Good luck to you all.
