But what triggers the breeding season for turkeys???
Same for turkey's.Lenght of the day and maybe a little temp factors in there somewhere.I don't know I'm not an expert.
Tends to happen very close to first day of spring around here.
Photoperiod...........the length of day and night in a 24 hour period.

Then why spring??? Why not fall like deer?
In addition to the length of day and night, the fact that one is increasing and the other decreasing is part of the trigger. in the fall is is the opposite for which is increase and decrease.
