Default Turkeys where turkey aren\'t suppsoe to be!

I live in Very nothern Vermont and the turkey population is hardly existant.
50 miles south of me they are loaded with birds, but on my land I have seem maybe 9 turkeys in 7 years. They must be around but not the massive flocks you see on some fields down south of me.
Well I get home from a morning deer hunt for some hot food and nice warm fireplace.
I look out the front window (since I can still technically be hunting...from the house LOL) and
I see 32 turkeys leaving the cedars right next to my house.
I mean less then 40 yards from my garage!!!
I go out and try to get some pics but they caught me and fled back into the cedar. I did get a couple pics but nothing worth posting..
Just thought I would share the exciting possiblity of being able to hunt turkeys up around my area.
    FINALLY!!!!

I swear I coulda took out several with a hand full of gravel!!!
To bad my area does not have a fall tag. It did open to spring hunting thought last year so they must be spreading well..
I am excited about the possibilities thats for sure. If not next year then in a couple for sure...

It amazes me that they have not with the massive populations just 40 or 50 miles away!
Like there was some rule that they could not pass the 45th parralle or something.. LOL
    (I'm right on that line)
But it seems mother nature has snuck some in nonetheless.
Good for us in "Almost Canada"... LOL

Porch turkeys, huh? Don't worry they'll be long gone come huntin' season.

Are you sure they weren't buzzards?

Sounds like they are getting a foothold, you should have plenty of turkeys in the future, with the right habitat. Nature abhors a vacuum. Redbeard's right though, they do have an uncanny ability to pull a disappearing act.
