I'll be heading out to catch my flight to Texas in about an hour or so to smack some Rios at the King Ranch. Woke up at 4:30 this morning to finalize a few "to do's" and finish packing. Gotta admit, I'm fired up now! There will definately be some feathers flying on this trip. Reports from others returning from the King Ranch last week were unbelievable. On gobbler killed with a 13" beard, several with spurs in the 1 1/2" or better range, and some hunters limiting out with their 4 birds the 1st day. With two days to hunt though I won't be trying to bag 4 in a day. I'll be looking for some of those long hooked, limb hangers rather than numbers. One of the guys that's going with us hunted there last year and killed his best bird ever in 40+ years of turkey hunting. It was an 11"+ bearded gobbler with 1 3/4" spurs that he mounted. I hope I'm fortunate enough to bag one of those 1 1/2"+ hooked Rios to send to the taxidermist. If the hunt is half as good as the reports I'm hearing, I'll be more than satisfied with this turkey hunt though. The video camera and still shot camera is packed and ready to go too.
To all you turkey hunters heading out to do battle from now through this weekend, I hope you all some have memorable turkey hunting experiences and tag some birds. I'll be back sometime Sunday afternoon or Monday with a King Ranch Rio report and some pics.![]()
