Got another tough one on Easter morning. It was light enough to see at 5:55am my bird didn’t fly off of the roost until 8:30. He had two hens roosted with him, they raised cain for about 30 minutes until they landed in my lap well 6yds from my feet. They looked like a pair of mallards setting down on a decoy spread. I knew if he flew down he would probably do the same so I had my gun my shoulder ready for 2hrs. Funny thing was there was about 50 buzzards roosted in an oak about 60yds. away. He would gobble at them when they flew off the roost but wouldn’t even think of answering me so I stopped calling. Every time a buzzard would fly I thought it was him so my heart would skip a beat while I was waiting for him to sail in. I had to leave by 8:45 to be able to make it to church so about 8:20 I called one more time, nothing. About 10min. went by and I heard some noise on the side of the ridge, he stepped out at 25yds to my right and of course my barrel get hung in the blind(first time I’ve used a blind in years) finally got it out of the blind before he got to the woods. He was 19.2lbs., 10” beard, and a 3\4” and 1” spur.![]()
As I was walking out between the field I was hunting and my truck was the MAN he was strutting in the road I don’t know how long his beard is but it is thick and long. I’m going to try to get him tomorrow. We saw a few during deer season with 11\4”+spurs there in there but they wont gobble. Is any one else having this problem.
