    Default COMP-N-CHOKE results

The results with my comp-n-choke are ok at best. I was kind of dissappointed with my 40 yd pattern. I only had about 10 #5's in the turkeys head on my H.S. strut target with winchester #5 3 1/2 in HV's and 2 #5's with flightcontrol Federals HV's. My set up is a 835 with a 680 xx full c-n-c tube. How are your results? Was I expecting too much?

Wow, from what I have read about the C-N-C chokes I would say you should be disappointed in it's performance. Not only does it look bad on paper, but I definitely wouldn't be shooting it in the woods.

Did you check your point of aim before actually sighting in? With that low a number of bb's in the kill zone with that choke, something definitely has to be off.

I'd definately check the point of aim...

Here's what my C-N-C did at 40 yrds. with 3" Winchester Supremes..I had 21 head and neck hits,, it probably would have been more but as you can notice I pulled the shot a touch high and right...

I'd also recommend you try some different loads and manufactures...

[/ QUOTE ]I sighted the gun in at 25 yds. At 25 yds all the shot fit in a 8 inch cicrle at 40 yds maybe 50 pellets with 12 in the kill zone.

Was all the shot dead center of where you were aiming, or was it high, low, left, right????? If it was all dead center and inside an 8" circle, your 40 yard results should be a lot better than what they are.

If nothing else, just try a new shell

I also shoot an 835. I've tried the Comp-N-Choke XXX Full .670 and failed to get good results with the 3 1/2" Winchester HV #5's. Got better results with the 3", #6's with this tube. The Federal Flitecontrols were terrible with this choke but I knew from what I heard that they would be because the choke is ported. This past Sunday I shot a nice tom at 45 yds. with my current set-up: Trulock .680 non-ported choke with Federal Flitecontrol 3 1/2", 2 1/4 oz., #5's. I would actually try the Flitecontrols with your stock Mossberg Ulti-full choke and see what results you get before spending any big bucks on an aftermarket tube. Good luck!

Dont limit yourself to #5 shot, try some 6's too! I use a 835 with a XXX full C-N-C, with Wincester Supreme HV #6 shot, I see your using a XX full. With my gun/choke I got 49 head and neck killing pellets at 40 yards. I believe if you went with #6's you just might have better results.

You might also bite the bullet and try the Winchester Extended Range shells. I shoot a Benelli with a CNC tube and have used Win. Hi-Velocity #5's for several years. I went to the X-tended range this year and have been impressed. You won't notice a lot of difference in the two at 25-30 yards, but boy did the X-tended range shine at 40. Patterns improved by 20-25 %. Taken two turkeys with them this year at 34 and 40 yards. Both hit the ground witout a whimper.

In my gun(stoeger 2000) the federal FC #5 work great with the CNC. My dad gets great results with almost all loads with the CNC choke in his 870. But the 3" Win Ext Range in #6 shot got him the most hits with 20+ bone hits at a measure 40 yards

It sure put down his first tom hard at 30 yards.

Every gun is different. Good Luck find the recipe your gun/choke likes.

All guns respond differently to different combinations. There are no "hard & fast" rules. But there are some pretty accurate generalizations. I have spoken, at length, with Chuck Boswell of Comp-N-Choke. In his experience, the Federal Flitecontrols were a consistent "so-so" performer. As someone already mentioned, it's due to the porting in the tube. Try some other loads (start with the Winchester Supremes and X-Tendeds) and see if you're not happier.

I use a kick's gobblin thunder 680 with winchester supreme elite( the new x-tended range) number 5 2 oz. 3.5 I can put 230-240 pellets in a ten in circle at 30-35 yards, at 40 yards the count is still over 120 pellets. When I installed this new choke it completely through the point of impact off the chart. Or I should say into the dirt. I took some light trap loads and shot them at 10-15-20 yards to adjust my P.O.I and to make sure my scope was dead nuts. After all that and a couple of boxes of Winchester supreme elites and 4 others shell makers different shot size, I was happy with my results. Good luck

Thanks guys! I'm going to clean my gun and start over again if my shoulder can take it. I'm going to try 3 in and 3 1/2 winchester supreme HV's. I'll be back with results.
