Today turned out great. I hunted a place that a customer of mine ownes. I get to the place at 5:50am and when I slam the door I hear about 10 different gobblers sound off. I nervously get situated about a hundred yards away from the truck, and start tree calls. Every time that I called I instantly had a answer, at 6:35 it sounded like every bird around flew down at the same time. Three of them flew over me and landed about 75yds away. By now I am so fired up that I,m just calling one series right after another. I am watching the three birds that landed in front of me, wich are all jakes. Then to my right I hear a tom sound off real close, I turn to look, and a big tom is running right to my decoys. He then veers toward the jakes and sends them running, he stops and starts strutting, and is about 50yds away. I just quit calling because he is locked on to my decoys and slowly coming closer. When he gets to 40yds I unload on him, and he flys off. I'm disgusted because I felt myself jerk the trigger. Clean Miss. As I sit there banging my head against the tree, I hear him gobble again about 100yds away. I then grab a different call and start calling again. He does the exact same thing again and this time I didn't flinch. Within two steps of the same place as before and now we have a very dumb turkey and a very lucky hunter. Thank you god! He weighed 23.5lbs 8.5 inch beard and 1 1/4 right spur 1 3/8 left spur
