I hate bearded hens!

Just got back from turkey hunting and came so close to killin the turkey we've been hunting for a while. He gobbled good this morning off the roost then stopped for a while. Then I saw him struttin about 200 yards off and he had a hen with him. They disappered in the pines then I saw them again. He would never come out of the strut and he gobbled a few times but wouldn't leave that darn hen. We tried to get the hen to come close to the decoys but she would only get about 30 yards and stand there. She finnaly left and carried the BIG tom with her. We'll that happens and I still got one more day left. Oh yea the hen had a small beard on her too.

I have seen a few in my neck of the woods as well.
Although a legal trophy here in NY during the spring season, I would pass on taking a hen with a beard. Maybe during the fall season though.

Here in missouri a bearded bird can be taken. I think about 10% of the hens around here are bearded. They taste good too.

I killed one 3 years ago with a thin 7 1/2 inch beard weighted 14lbs. not bad for a hen I shot her in the spine with a sledgehammer broadhead she went 2 ft.

I took a picture of my beard from the hen last night didn't but don't have it on my computer to post yet it is 8 1/2 inches not 7 1/2. I'll post it tonight or tommorrow.

I saw three bearded hens this year and didn't shoot any of them.

I'm kinda regretting it. A full body mount of one of those hens without the beard would make an awesome decoy .

I'm thinking a locally obtained hen decoy can't be beat.
