This morning has I was out driving through the cows and checking on everything. I saw a Turkey strutting from a far on a small hill about 40 yard out along a thick wood line. Well this got my attention so I wanted to get closer to see what it was. I drove with in 100 yards to the bird to see that it was a real nice long beard with about a 10 or 11 inch beard strutting as if he was in his strut zone. I turned the truck off and sat there watching him through my binoculars. The Mature Tom was strutting back and forth and casting out a gobble every now and then.
As a few minutes went by watching him, some movement caught the edge of my eye. As I turned my head to look to see what it was, there was 6 Jakes running to this long beard circling and surrounding him. As they were coming in and closing the distance to the long beard, these 6 Jakes did not want him there and they came in with an attitude.
As they ran upon the long beard the fight was on. These 6 Jakes started whopping the snot out of this Mature Tom. There was a couple of times the Jakes hit long beard so hard it would just roll him. While all this was going on, 4 Hens came from out of no where and was just feeding. Once the Hens came out it didn't take the Jakes long to chase that Long Beard out of the area.
It was pretty awesome to watch and man I wish I had my video camera with me this morning so I could of had all that on film.
But it's like they say. Carry with you and you want see nothing's, Don't carry with you and then you wish you had it...
Just wanted to share that with ya...
Even though our season is over it was a pretty awesome morning to say the less...
Makes my day when you can see wildlife do stuff like that...
