I have been "back home" for 4 turkey seasons now. I took a 3 year old with a 8.5" beard my first year back. Then the last 2 years, nothing. I hardly even heard a turkey gobble last year.
Last weekend I went out and wasn't able to get on a bird. On my way home I stopped at a wide spot in the woods to answer the call of nature and as I was in the process a bird gbbled up the valley from me. I went after him with no luck.
This morning I was back at that same spot. At the crack of daylight he was gobbling off the roost and he had a buddy with him. He must have gobbled 40-50 times over a 20 minute period. He answered every call I threw at him and finally I decided to go quiet and try and draw him in. Finally, after a long and nerve-racking wait I could hear him spittin' and drummin' on the hillside in front of me. He finally came out from behind some brush, let out one final gobble and I lowered the boom on him. He never even flopped a single time.
He weighs 19 pounds, 3/4" spurs and a 10" beard. Just a 2 year old bird but not a bad way to end a 2 year drought!!!
Unfortunately my floppy drive is broke and I cant load any of the digital pics I took.![]()
