My uncle got his first of the season today. We had been patterning the boss gobbler on the place that we hunt and were hoping to get him today. I setup on one end of the field and my uncle setup on the other end of the field on the side. We setup about 5:20 am and I bumped the boss gobbler off the roost (hate when that happens). By 8:00 am we had heard nothing and seen nothing when a gobbler and two hens appeared out of thin air it seemed. They were out of my range, but the gobbler slowly worked toward my uncle and he got a 20 yard shot at him and dropped him. He wasn't the boss gobbler, but he was a nice one with a 9 3/4" beard and 3/4" spurs he was about 2 1/2 years old. He was 20 lbs even. We learned later from a cousin that was setup on another field that if we had waited a little longer the boss bird was heading our way when my uncle took his. We are going to have fresh turkey tomorrow and we have one more week to try and get the boss. The boss gobbler has a beard that drags the ground and is somewhere in the 25+ lb range he didn't get that way making mistakes.
