Default Im am still in disbelief

Ok ladies and gentleman do you ever just have one of those days where everything goes right except the part when you shoot a turkey. Here goes kinda long. Fellow realtree member devin and I went to my property that is loaded with turkeys. He has never been there before and i tried to tell him what it could be like. Walking in the woods early i told him where we would set up we would be right in the thick of things if the turkeys were there. Basically we were sitting in a bottom with a ridge to our side and a creek infront of us. As it got light a dog barked off in the distance and yep you guessed it a turkey gobbled id say about 80 yards off max. I told dev i was gonna try a soft few calls with the box call. Gobble oh yeah about 30 to 40 yards away on the ridge. We were sitting pretty. I am guessing we heard anywhere around 20 turkeys fly down this morning. We had 2 gobblers and a jake working the ridge just strutting back and forth. Then all of a sudden a hen flew down and i thought she was gonna land in our blind with us. She walked down out infront of us followed by the jake. I had told devin he gets first shot and then he sees the 2 longbeards coming down the ridge so my brain kicks in and i start thinking about a double. Well i had the lead turkey in my sites at no mroe than 20 yards and i asked devin if he was on the other one but he couldnt see it anymore. Turns out the gobbler he was gonna blast dropped down in the creek where he walked past us. So by that time we didnt have any shots. I just couldnt believe it. Today was great tho!

cool, I've tried the double thing a time or two. It never works for me. I usually say the first one with an open shot takes it and the second guy deals with what happens. LOL

GB618 I had a very similar hunt happen 3 years ago with a good friend of mine. We were also trying for a double with some birds we had previously patterned and we roosted them the prior afternoon. Everything almost worked out except the trailing bird was just a little too far and turned moving off with the lead bird well within range. I gave my buddy the green light to shoot but he still held off and his bird followed his buddy out of there. No shots fired that morning either. They did put on a great show though and when we decided to go look for another bird, I kicked my buddy in the rear for not taking the bird in hand.
