I have not killed a bird myself yet. This is my third year of hunting and it's came to an end empty handed again. The first year I went hunting I didn't hear nor see a single gobbler, but lots of hens. The second year I heard two gobblers the whole season and neither would come in to calls and stayed in the no-hunting zone. This year I saw 5 gobblers, one of which put on a strutting display for me at a couple 100yards, two of which gobbled to calls but had hens and wouldn't come in, another that started to come in but was shot by another hunter before reaching me, and the final one was chased off its roost during the night by a boy scout group hiking around making racket in the woods and went 3 ridges over and stayed there the entire week that I hunted.

Most of my issues deal with I can't seem to find any private landowners in the state within a 2.5 hour drive of Harrisburg, PA that will let me hunt their land, so I get forced to hunt on public land and I get limited due to my severe exercise induced asthma problems to how far I can walk around at a time before having to take a break. On public land after the first few days of the season the birds get used to almost all kinds of locator calls and ignore turkey calls pretty much. Finding them is difficult and a lot of hiking. When I do manage to find one within a reasonable hiking distance of me when calling them in is difficult because soon as you get them gobbling another hunter moves in and fights with you for the bird by trying to call it away to them, or worse yet stalks up and shoots the bird out from under you (illegal). It's what cost me one bird this year was another hunter stalking to the gobbler while I was calling it in at 200yards and shooting it because the bird was distracted towards my calling at the time and had crossed the road infront of the hunter in his truck.

I'm going to try again to find some private landowners that don't mind a father and his daughter with exercise induced asthma hunting their land for turkey. It'd be nice to find one that would let me hunt deer too as this is going on year 9 without a single buck under my belt due to hunting only public lands and my asthma limitations on how far I can hike to setup for deer. If not it'll be another year this coming turkey season where I'll have to battle it out with other hunters on public lands.

Good luck. Season is over here. Finally killed my first one this year on the opening afternoon after about 5 years of trying to hunt these birds.

I have not pulled the trigger. But I have been with 3 others that have tagged a bird. 2 of them were youngsters.

I developed pleurisy and have not been able to hunt for the last week. Missed some work also.

Haven't killed one yet. Had 0ne bout 80 yrds over the ridge but had hens. heard 3 jakes gobbling for 15 min but dissapeared, seen them later in the day in a field 2 ridges over.(hunting ends @ noon in NY).
Going out this weekend hope to atleast end my 2 yr dry spell witha jake. or end my bro 6yr with one.

<=== That loser right there hasnt killed one....

    Our season is over too..
Another fruitless year. Ive only killed one jake about 4-5 years ago. The sad part is, ive been out every year since with no luck.

    Not yet for me either...
My 3rd season here with my 1st scoring fast on 2 jakes and not one gobble my 2nd season.

I have gotten close this year but have not seasled the deal and now I am not hearing anything in the 3 spots I can hunt...
    My hopes are dwindling...
