Coyote tried to eat turkey decoy

I had just set up on a little ridge just behind an opening where I had seen a nice longbeard the prior day. Set the decoy up at 30 yards. Hadn't even made a call yet when this little mangy coyote walked right by me (about 15 feet). I hissed at it and waved my SX-2 at it to scare it away but it didn't budge - she walked right up to my decoy, sniffed it, and was about to lunge at it when I put her down with a single shot of #5 Win Extended range.

I had one hit my decoy this year. Came right along and went about ten yards past it like he was pretending he didn't see it ....then BAM...he turns around and whacked it from behind. Broke the stake off right in the ground. I didn't shoot him though.

NY actually has a coyote season, we can't hunt them til september, and it ends in march, but if one was that close to me , 15yards...who knows?, my gun might just've went off
Thas a little too close for comfort on the ground for me from a predator.

I smack every one i get a chance at, and usually my chances are all in turkey season. This year is the first year i havent killed a yote in 3 or 4 seasons. Chased one Monday but it lucked up and somehow got past me.

Way to go on the Coyote, you were after 1 turkey but saved several!
