    Default I admit it....

I've been a major major turkey hunting slacker. Since graduation last weekend, I lost all ambition and except for going out for a few hours one morning this week, I have not turkey hunted at all. What is wrong with me?! for one, I pushed hard the first week, then of course the weather has been cold, rainy, windy, and miserable all this week, and of course, I now have no clue where to turkeys are so I need to scout all over again because next week is my last week really to hunt. I was up on top of the gravel pit last night and they are bulldozing it because they are done using it so it is getting bulldozed from a cliff into a hill, then they plowed part of the field below it where I was seeing turkeys, no fresh sign really. Maybe this weekend, with the rain, the turkeys will move back out to the field. I took a hike around part of the property I hunt and so no fresh sign so it makes me think they are moved to the other half of the property, maybe. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to scout/hunt late season turkeys, especially when the weather is going to be rainy and windy on Sunday? Thanks!

Don't worry, you're not alone. I absolutely LOVE turkey hunting and I am about as diehard and hardcore as it gets, but since it's been raining here in PA for 2 weeks I find it VERY HARD to drag my behind out of bed in the morning anymore. Not only does the weather stink, but these birds are just acting outright strange this year.

Believe me, I'm not giving up; I have a week left in my season and I am going to give it heck, but I am going to have to dig deep to say the least.

Rain and lack of bird sounds are keeping my sprites low too.
I have a couple days left that I can hunt for the rest of our season, and will give it a try but I am not very confident I must admit..
    Good Luck

Only if you were closer to me Ruth. You could come and hunt with us on Sunday. I'm all tagged out and I'm gonna be calling for my dad and my bro this weekend.

Don't let the rain get you down! It doesn't bother the turkeys and they'll keep doing what come natural. As far as the plowed feild and gravel pit are concerned. I've found that turkeys like freshly worked ground. I've seen them working fields that have been plowed/planted within an hour of the farmer leaving the field.

Plus you can't kill one from bed(unless you're slughunter).

    Good luck to you all.

Thanks for the tips guys. I know, I wish I lived a little closer to some of you, lol! I was going to go out and look for roosting birds tonight, but didn't get back from shopping until late then I had to do the barn chores so by then it was way late. The weather is suppose to be really miserable tomorrow - high winds, rain, cool temps. so i may not get out unless I wake up and go yeah, what the heck! lol This coming week is suppose to get better weather wise so tomorrow evening if it isn't a wash out, I'll go scan the fields and see what may be out. Good luck to the rest of you out there still trying!
