I got my first turkey this morning after three years of trying. I got setup about 5:30 and it was lightly raining, but it stopped around 6:00 and right after that the turkey started to gobble about 150 yards in front of me. He flew down aobut 7:00 am and strutted a little bit and then slowly started to move toward me. He got within 50 yards and just hung there and acted kind of nervous. I had a clear shot and the Federal # 5's did their job. He went down and I was off balance on the chair I was sitting in and flipped over into a briar patch. I saw him get up and I could not get to him, but he only hobble 20 to 30 yards and fell at the edge of the woods. I hit him in the bottom of the neck and tore it up pretty good. Got back to the the hunting trailer and weighed him and measured the beard and spurs. Weight 23 lbs, Beard 12" and thick he has a second beard coming out just above the first one, spurs 1 1/8". I thought he was pretty good for a first bird and I know I will never top this one.
