Well this morning me and my brother decided to head out and try to get him a turkey. This was his one and only day to be able to hunt. We got set up and heard them gobbling on the roost, when they flew down they got quiet and went the other way. We waited 30 mins and snuck to the field edge and they were about 250 yards away(group of 5). We then decided that we would check the back field about 200 yards the other way and nothing was there. We sat there for about 30 mins and nothing came out, so we went back to the other field where the other turkeys were. When we got back there they were now about 150 yards away and working their way towards us, so we sat up on the ditch line and called twice. There was 3 toms and 2 hens, the toms would gobble every 5 yards or so. They worked up to within 20 yards of us.
This is his 3rd year in a row with a turkey, 9 3/4 inch beard, 7/8 inch spurs, and 22 1/2 lbs. His chest was really raw, so he was doing a lot of mating. All 3 toms were about the same size. I'm 21 and my brother is 27, this was my first year turkey hunting and i didnt get one so i went with him to learn some stuff.
