I make a few. There are several other guys (far more accomplished than I) in the forums that do, as well. I'm sure they'll chime in.
How about posting a pic of your work?? Always interesting to see what other people do.![]()
I'll send the pic in a few minutes
Here is the latest one i made.I use red oak with a cherry stain.

that looks awesome strut. Where do you go about getting the materials to start making calls, and how much do all the neccessary wood working tools run? Would be fun to try
I get most of my wood from the Strut10 Ranch and other local sources (there's a trillion sawmills here). Slate and glass discs are "catch as catch can". eBay and some call-making websites are available. I use pretty primitive methods on my calls.........O.K.........very primitive methods. I suppose I have around $750 in my tooling and machines. It definitely ain't a money-making thing. I do it because I like to.![]()
Strut10 makes a very sweet sounding call.
Here's my ever growing collection.

From top left clockwise....
Chestnut slate, Maple glass, Padauk (sp?) slate and Walnut slate.
Each one has a slightly different sound but all sound great.
