Default Jakes and Jennies in NY

Where are all the jakes and young hens in Ny? I figured they would be everywhere with the good winter. I also thought that last years hatch would have been pretty good with the dry spring. All season I only seen one jake, how about the rest of the Ny huters?

I'm also located in Steuben County and in my core hunting area (Prattsburgh, Pulteney, Hammondsport) there seemed to be a ton of jakes around prior to season...with groups of 5-8 jakes on 4 or 5 different places that I hunt. Man, I couldn't believe the size of some of the jakes around this year! I watched them chase off longbeards several times this spring. I'm already pumped up about next spring...there should be quite a few gobblers around and lots of loadmouth 2 yr. olds . I sure hope that we have a good hatch this year too.

Opening day, I found myself at an apple orchard in Ulster County ( WMU 3J ). First bird we called in was a jake that I shot. Then about an hour later we called in a pair of toms but couldn't seal the deal on either of them. Then around 11:00 we called in another jake that my dad shot. Then on May 14th, I called in a pair of toms and I was able to connect on the strutter out of the two. The last few days, all I have heard was jakes. High pitched, incomplete gobbles. You know how they sound. As for the hens, as long as they are not between me and a longbeard, it's all good.

I saw 2 jakes on opening morning and those are the only ones I seen, and the hens I saw were only on one side of the property I hunt. I did see a lot of long beards this season and tagged 2 of them.

I hunt Schoharie county NY and there were plenty of jakes around. Two people in my hunting group got 1 each. Heard and saw jakes from the start of the season right up till the end pretty much. No shortage here thankfully.

I haven't seen any young ones on the property I hunt for 3-4 years now. There used to be alot, that is how I got turkeys, lol, but I know I didn't shoot them all. I think the predator population is up in my area and the land I hunt was logged which I think moved the turkeys right out. Just a few older birds now...

I had a group of 3 jake running around my area, But a couple of hunters called them in and spooked the crap out of them. Rest of the season they became invisible. Couple mature toms but way to many hens down here. Seen a flock of about 30 and one of about 50 running round my area last winter.
