contest suggestion

In the event we have an odd number of hunters where every team doesn't have the same amount of hunters, let a team designate a hunter prior to the season, who will be allowed to submit a second bird. teams will need to talk it over and decide who would be best for this position and designate the hunter of choice. this would level the playing field for teams that don't have as many hunters out there as others do.

I don't like the idea. Just make the number come out even for every team. Maybe it would be 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 hunters per team.

Lots of states only allow 1 bird. Who knows if every team will have a hunter who can harvest 2 birds. Plus it will give a BIG avantage to a team where the 2nd bird would come from a farm state where they REALLY grow some big birds.

I understand, but last year we a few teams with one less hunter on their team, the rest had more hunters out hunting. In the event that would happen again it would only level the playing field.

Its not a bad idea slaw...I actually thought about that. But then like CB said...what if there is a team with hunters only allowed to kill one bird? We'll try are darnest to even the teams out the best we can.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me honestly to level out the numbers, might make it a little easier on the mods too for those teams that have a member short.

Really don't know what the actual odds are...however it is posible that it could happen. Then we have only one or two teams short members/birds. So we then have to try and arrange teams so it doesn't happen that way. The point of this contest is to have fun and bragging rights. It wouldn't be much fun if the teams were "made" up instead of randomly put together.

Guess we'll have to wait and see how many members we have...seperate all the contestants by adult/youth and species...then put the teams together. If we have a few teams short members...then we can try to get alternates to sign up or maybe discuss allowing those teams to have a member harvest more than one bird?

I think last year, a deer or turkey contest, there was an odd number, not enough divy out to temas or make a team with same amount, so there was a special sign-up for anyone who didn't sign-up yet to get signed up so the teams could be evened out.

TG that's what I've done for the deer contest the last couple years, usually only takes a few days to fill the remaining spots. LOL there's always someone that forgets to sign-up until after the deadline ends.

"Sign-up will be open through 11:59 P.M. February 26, 2007. There will be no late sign-ups or additional teams added after this date!! Any late entries will only be considered if alternates are needed on existing teams. Alternates will be on a "first come-first served" basis. Teams will then be assigned prior to 12:00 A.M. March 3, 2007.

I've also got a suggestion. Instead of having to enter your first bird let you enter the biggest bird you kill. This would give an advantage to people who are allowed to kill more than one bird in thier state but it would at least even the playing field for the honest folks. I always felt like there was a lot of sandbagging going on. Then say if you had a team with say 5 members and everyone else had 6 you could take the "SMALLEST" bird from on of the other team members to round out the 6 birds and take the largest 4 birds. Sounds kinda confussing but that might help.

Normally though if a team is short a member they leave out a youth spot, or inexsperience member spot (someone with few post.) This kinda evens it up anyway. I think they do a pretty good job on this every year and i have enjoyed participating.

Dont honestly think post count has anything to do with turkey hunting experience. I will be the first to admit, I am not that experienced with turkey hunting and while I can get them to gobble, I cannot call a bird in to save my life. I am sure there are newbies here that will come in that have way more experience than I do.

The turkey contest only allows you to enter the first bird that you shoot, no upgrades, heres the quote from the rules...
