    Default Box calls

Ok, my dad is in love w/ box calls because he like the eeeaahhh sound at the end. I have heard from various sources that this isn't a good sound up close because it is too pronounced. When they are farther away, that sound isn't as pronounced. Am I right in believing this, because I have also found this to be true.

Just wanted some different opinions. Thanks!!

IMO......the boxcall makes the most accurate reproduction of a wild turkey hen. Have somebody run a boxcall 20 yards out though the woods from you sometime. It'll open your eyes. As far as an "eeeaahhh" sound at the end........... ........not sure that the call's being run propoerly if you're getting that out of it. No matter what call you're using, the calls should be made crisply and well defined. Turkeys hens make a lot of unusual sounds. But they very rarely slur.

Ditto!! But practice making the sounds on a box call as you would on any other type of call!! You still have to be proficient on making the various "turkey sounds" regardless of the call being used.

Ok, thanks . I just like the sound of a slate or diaphram call better, but to each his own I guess. Thanks for the opinions, I really appreciate it!!!

    I concur.

I will add that the sounds a call makes by the person only matters if it calls in the gobbler

Can't agree more with the other guys. I wouldn't leave my box at home for any reason. Nothing sounds as much like a turkey as the box.
