Went out this morning and did not see or hear a bird. We changed locations and finally got a distant gobble at the property line. The bird did not want to commit so I moved away about 75 yards and started calling again. I guess he could tell the hen was leaving so he decided to get a little closer. I was hunting some thick cover so when I first saw him he was only 10 yards away. I noticed he was a young bird so I lowered the shotgun and just started playing with him. As I was teasing him with some soft clucks and purrs I noticed that he was hopping on one leg. The other leg was just dangling. I thought for a few moments and decided he would probably be coyote food in a day or two so I decided to take him. Not a monster but still proud that I called him in from so far away. When I cleaned him I found a fractured femur. The skin was not damaged at all but there was fresh blood around the break. I guess it was some type of injury. Fresh turkey breast on the grill tonight
