    Default Hunting Clearcuts

My fiance's mom (mymomther-in-law in 1 month) has some land close to home about 500 acres. just recently it has been clear cut. she always talks about her seeing turkeys during deer season. I hunted opening day there last year and saw nothing and heard nothing didnt even see any tracks or sign. so again she says there are loads of turkeys there but now it's been clear cut. how would you go about hunting this type of land?
went out there at about 8am this morning to see if i could possibly hear one gobble and nothing soo i dont know what to think. help??

wow thats a tough one. I would prolly just find a good spot to sit where she says that shes seen them and wait. Take your binoculars and glass all of the possible areas.

Without knowing the lay of the land....here is how I set up birds that may be passing through....find the thick deer trails, and where she has seen them in the past, and go buy several really cheap bags of "playground sand" and lightly coat the trails heading in and out of the clearings, or possible strut zones....mark each trail you make with a flag of some sort.....and go from there....if not, you need to go out at night and do a hawk, owl, coyote...or whatever you think will make a bird "shock gobble" and locate the birds....I hunt pretty small timbers compared to 500 acres....I would definately locate them birds....ask the mail carriers, UPS guy, local delivery people on where they have seen birds in your area your hunting.....this is how I start out....hope it helps a bit................the playground sand does work for better tracking..............al
