    Default Bow hunting for turkeys

Just wondering what poundage should be shot, where to aim, and any info that would be good to a new turkey bow hunter.

I shoot my deer bow at the turkeys set at 60 pounds. That way I already know my drop for certain distances. A side shot is good to hit in the center of the wing when it is strutting as the wing drops over the vitals. A rear shot can be taken right up the ol exit hole if you choose or a front shot in the center of the chest.

It is best to back down on the poundage for turkeys b/c the point is to have the arrow remain in the bird and not pass through. . . 60 pounds sounds ideal. I like using a broadhead with a large cutting diameter to up your chances of cuttin' into some good vitals and again, you're not looking for penetration with turkeys.

On aiming. . . . broadside aim at the butt of the wing, where it makes it's emergence from the body of the bird.

Straight on, hit'em just above the beard.
Facing away, if strutting hit'em with the texas heart shot. If not strutting, aim dead center of the back where the backbone runs and look to exit through the top of the beard.

Other info. . . i'd strongly suggest using a blind and decoys when chasing turkeys with a bow. This puts a limit on their main defense, their eyes.
