Default Boy, This Is A First

OK, set up on some Jakes this morning in case there was a long beard with them. No such luck, headed to another area behind the house for a little cut and run time. Got half way down of the bench and see this large black blob, though great, there is one strutting. No such luck, SOW WITH A VERY SMALL CUB. To make one thing clear, I like to be the top of the food chain where I hunt. LOL Gets better, I hang tight and watch the show for awhile. The bears seem to be moving out, I hear a bird panick gobbleing right behind my field. I look again and the bear is moving my way. I can't go to the bird cause the bear is in between me and him. I'm trying to let the bear know I'm there before it gets close enough to think I'm a threat. Man I really need to get on that bird, he's gobbling hard. Finally the bear see's me, and decides to stare me down for 20 min. Finally the bear heads out with the cub in tow, I get to the birds area, and sure enough he has found the hen he lost. She yelps a few times while taking him out the mountain, and I cut a few times while heading to work. I WILL STATE AGAIN FOR THE RECORD, I HATE BEARS.
I'll try to extend the grace to you that God has already extended to me.

Boy never thought about that. But Im sure hunting with those guys lurking around could add even more challenge to turkey hunting.

    Good luck!

I am always leary about bears, 3 seasons ago I heard what I thought was turkeys flying across a ravine, look over and here comes a huge male right at me. All I have is a 20 with 3" 6s as he goes between me and my decoys. That was cool to see but a little close for my first bear encounter!!!

Tough luck there Jbeck. How are the birds looking up there? You have any free mornings next week?

bears aint nothin to be afraid of..been charged by a couple sows with cubs..you just stand your ground and yell and wave, it worked for me.
Prov.1;7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Yeah, works for me too, but it's still an unnerving experience to say the least. I've had bears ruin many deer hunts, just by being there, and since sows with cubs are protected, there isn't much you can do accept let them pass.
I've been around bears a lot, and I know one thing for sure...never trust em and be on guard at all times..A sow with cubs is the most dangerous of all bear encounters. Never try to second guess what she may do.
