    Default How Was Your Season?

Ours is over here in oklahoma, but i know some are still hunting.
The season here was weird lots of birds but no noise, it was almost like you had too get within 100 yards of them too even get one too fire up. We had a few come into the call and some gobble on the roost but nothing like last year.

I voted Best I've ever had because of how my season ended - my last hunt was awesome! As far as how the birds acted though it was one of the worst seasons I've seen n a long time - only had 1 or 2 days that I heard a bird gobble after 8

This season was as good as any i've ever had. . . . i've killed more birds in other years ( still got 3 more days ) but this year i was able to hit 3 different states for 3/4 of my slam. Made more lasting friendships and got my first longbeard with my bow. So far i've been able to watch 7 longbeards fall and perhaps i may luck up with one more before the 15th.

So i voted for the best year option.

Hunting was hard this year in Oklahoma. I did end up seeing quite a few birds and took a nice Eastern and Rio, so I can't complain too much

I have to say this is one of my best seasons, as far as seeing the birds. Hearing them is another story. They'd gobble in the mornings, but around 8am or so they'd be quiet as ever the rest of the day and difficult to call in or even locate. The hens were coming in to my hen decoy more than the toms were interested in impressing the hen decoy or even the live hens. In that moment between daylight and when they grew quiet though I managed to call in the most birds in one year, to a visual distance of me, than I've done in other years. Just none of them came in and presented a good shot for me to harvest my first longbeard. I had one that was in at the right distance this year though, just couldn't get a bead on him through the brush and didn't want to chance a bad shot on the bird. Got to see his fan quite a few times pop up infront of me, though which was cool.

I sure can't complain since I limited out here in MS again and also killed my quota of birds on my Texas trip. By far though the most fun I had was taking a 12 year old boy hunting this year and helping him bag a heck of a nice limb hanger. It was the 2nd bird he's killed hunting with me. We had several other close encounters with gobbling birds too so thank goodness I got the timing right for the 3 days I devoted to hunting with him.

As far as the way the turkeys acted this year it was unusual compared to most years. Didn't help that I had to deal with a lot of noise for the first 2 weeks from loggers cutting timber on us. Overall though the birds just weren't as vocal as they've been in the past. There were a few magic days but noting like normal spring seasons. Most days the birds just shut up within 30 minutes (or earlier) after flydown time. On the positive side I did see a lot more jakes this year than recent years so it looks like we had a real good hatch last year.

Well it wasn't the best I have ever had but it wasn't the worst either.

I would say ti was challenging/tougher than most years!

It seemed to me the birds just did not want to work like normal or just did not seem to have any interest in the decoys or calls. I think I called in 3 gobblers and a few jakes. All 3 gobblers where in range but only one is now in my freezer. One got a free pass the other was wearing a bullet proof suit...

I think of our 3 week season I didnt go but 4 or 5 days.
But I did manage to one kill a bird and should have had another but..... Anyways always fun to be out and I did get one.
