Well... we booked the flights the other night and my dad (ADjam5) and I are going to Texas for opening weekend of spring turkey. We leave Friday March 14th and return on Monday March 17th. We fly out of Laguardia to Houston, then from there another flight to San Antonio. Once there, we have a 4.5 hour ride to the lease where we will stay for the remainder of the weekend.
We're going to try and get our Rio Grande's, possibly a few javelina and an axis deer or two.
We're gonna take the .30-30 Marlin and the Mossberg 835 12ga down. We'll be using the regular old 150gr deer rounds for the .30-30 and then 3.5 Nitro's out of the Mossberg.
I'm also going to be taking my bow down, but I'll be shipping it 7 to 10 days before we leave, this way it gets there in time and there's no chance of the airline banging it around.
It worked out pretty well. We have a friend who owns 1,000 acres and leases another 39,000 acres. So we're gonna have pretty much 40,000 acres to ourselves for a weekend. All we have to pay is airfare and license/tags for turkeys and javelina. The axis deer rate is $150 for does and $550 for bucks.
I'm so stoked. I cannot wait. I already took that weekend off from work and now it's just a waiting game. The anticipation is killing me but it's so gonna be worth it.
