Cool Public Land Sugestions For Southeastern Kansas

I am thinking about taking my son up to Kansas for either early season or late season. I live in Northeastern Oklahoma.
Was just wondering if anyone who lives or hunts Kansas would know of some decent public land, maybe 1-2 hours from the southeastern Kansas line.
Say, maybe anywhere southeast of I-35.

Why don't you try the KDWP website, they have the WIHA hunting atlas online so you can view it, you just have to know what counties you'd be interested in. Should help some. You could figure out kinda where you want to go, find it in the atlas and then go to Google Earth and look at the piece of ground and tell if it looks like a good turkey piece. Just a suggestion, it might help. Let me know how you come out.

When you by a turkey license, is that your hunting license and tag together and then you can buy additional tags too?

Nope, you have to buy a license and a tag separately and then you can also buy another turkey game tag but it use to be that you couldnt use the game tag on some state ground. I'd have to check on that one.

it kind of sucks because your out of state license is going to be like $70 if i remember and the turkey tag will be just over $30.

    That link didn't work KS.
I've been on the sight. I was just unsure because they call it a "turkey license" instead of a "hunting license". In OK we have a "hunting license" and "turkey tags".

He's right, you have to buy the hunting license first, then buy a turkey permit, then if you want you are allowed 1 turkey game tag. As far as the hunting on the state ground, I don't know, but I always thought that that applied to deer game tags not turkey, I could be wrong. On the KDWP site select hunting, then turkey, then permits & regulations and look through that section thoroughly, they like to make you hunt for the things you want. I don't really like the way they do it. Let's see if that cleared anything up for ya, if not let me know.
