Default Upgrade coming for the Strutlets' guns.......

Sent my 9 and 14 year olds' barrels out to Wright's yesterday to be threaded for interchangeable chokes. They should be back in about 2 weeks. Then they're off to my smith's for drilling, tapping and Weaver rail installation for the mouinting of red-dot sights. Need to call Chuck Boswell at Comp-N-Choke for a pair of XX-Full (.565") tubes in the mean time. We're bringin' it. There's gonna be a nasty pair of 20's in the safe in plenty of time for April.

Yep..........along with some patterning pics, I suspect. This is gonna be interesting. I've done gobs of 12 gauges and a good handful of 10 gauges. But these are the first 20's I've really done much monkeying with. I suspect they're gonna turn out to be a couple of shooters.

I'll bet the Strutlets are fired up about the new modifications. Looking forward to seeing the performance of the new enhancements Don along with some smiling faces on the Strutlets.

    Well.................................

Got a call from Wright's..........yesterday. The barrels are done and being shipped. This project has been cursed from day-one. First, the gunsmith at Wright's told me there's be about a week's turn around time. Three weeks after I sent the barrels I called him. He said that someone had evidently dropped their tool to cut the 20 ga. threads for Rem-Choke. It was too messed up to use. He had been calling everyone he could think of to find another with no luck for weeks and weeks. In the mean time I had talked to Chuck Boswell at Comp-N-choke and he was sorry.........but they were out of almost all 20 ga. turkey tubes.......including the ones I needed.

So now the barrels are on their way here. But kids' season is this coming Saturday. I'll have barrels and mayyyyybe tubes. But there's no way to get the guns drilled & tapped for bases to mount red-dot sights by then.........let alone sighted in.

So the Strutlets have been thrust into "Plan B" for (at least the beginning of) the 2008 spring season. This past Wednesday nite they both went through round 1 of training with the Mrs.' Rem 870. I was quite surprised how well (especially the 10 year old) they did with the gun. They were shooting at a Campbell's soup can (same size & color as a turkey's head ) at 30 yards and thoroughly ventilating it. I'm saying that any turkey within 30 yards of the front of that gun is in dire straits if one of the Strutlets is at the controls.
