    Default comp n choke??

right now i'm shooting a modified choke through my 870 super mag, i can shoot pretty close to 50 yards with it, and knock down a turkey at that range, and i was thinking of buying the comp n choke, would it increase my pattern that much or should i even get the choke because i'm already shooting pretty good up to 45 yards

For turkey, if I had a modified choke. I would look for something a bit tighter. You can not shoot hevishot though a CNC! As Don guided me and many others, CNC XXX Full was perfect along with some Winchester Supreme's #6 shot! But then you also need to go though the patterning process to see how effective you can be with any choke!

As long as your getting a decent amount of shot in the target at 40 yards with your current choke, and if your happy with it. Why fix it, if its not broken! But if your shooting hevishot with a modified choke, you might already be doing as best you can. Hevishot from what I fired likes a more open choke. At least in my 835.

with a mod choke you have got to have a really wide pattern at 50 yards? How many hits in the head and neck at that distance with the mod? I have the same choke as John in my gun and with #6's in 3.5 inch it shoots a very nice pattern. I think any full or extra full choke should outshoot your modified choke.

i tried shooting with the full and the extra full chokes but it didn't pattern worth a darn, i think because the bb's would hit each other and go all over i'm not really sure

Sounds like you need to try different ammo to see what your gun really likes! Also maybe you need to go through the patterning process again.

If you decide to get a CNC XXX Full, definitly try the Winchester Supremes.

LifeNRA has it right. If you are shooting Hevi's a tighter choke might make things worse.

Hevi's can be finicky some like squeezing some don't like it at ALL!

You need to know how many pellets you can put in a 10in circle at 40 or 45 yds with different loads and chokes to really decide what's the best.

Call the technical service guys at Comp-n-choke. Tell them what gun you have and what shell you plan to shoot. They will suggest the right size to you.

Or call the tech guys here
    http://gobblerguns.com/

Not trying to snipe Comp-n-choke they got a loyal following around here but the gobbler guns dudes know there stuff too so keep an open mind

If your killing turkeys at 45-50 yards already I wouldn't buy a choke.

if your going with a comp-n-choke get the xxxfull for 5 and 6's. You might want to give them a call and let them know what gun your shooting what type of ammo your going to shoot. They know what type of choke and ammo combos do better for different guns.

John and I both shoot mossberg 835's and went with the xxxfull choke and both shoot #6 supremes very well. They recommended the xxfull for better patterns if shooting 3.5" #5's but the xxxfull shoots them pretty decent as well. Give them a call and they will get you set up.
