    Default herter plantation call

I found an old plantation call that my dad used in the early 70's. I have not been able to find any info on how this call was properly used. My dad can not seem to remember much about it at all!!! Any help would be appreciated. thanks

You need to chalk them like a box call.

The wood piece inside is the striker. Take out the cork and take it out. Hold it longwise between two fingers and give a short stroke accross the lip of the box.

The Plantation calls make awesome clucks.

Yelps are tougher, and don't sound as good to me as they do on other calls. But for clucks that plantation call is very very good.

Found this picture on the web. Apparently this is a rare call. A buddy of mine has one. I called on it before. Very good clucks really superb.

The Herter's Plantation Call is actually not that uncommon. Herter's put out two turkey calls....the Plantation and the #107 boxcall. Usually you can find a handful of Plantations on eBay at any given time. They go for $15-$25. Expect to drop a couple Bens on the #107 boxcall.

Like Leo said.......chalk it........striker between two fingers.......I like the middle finger & thumb.........and stroke across the box, at a downward angle for a yelp. Skip across once for a cluck. You only want to play one side at a time............just like a boxcall.

Should have known to check Ebay! DOH!

I've only ever seen one myself, so I never dreamed they'd be on there. Live and learn.
