Well I shot my very first turkey yesterday on the opener. Two of my friends and I (only two of us hunting) went out and sat in this old permant hunting blind where my buddy shot his last year. This spot is prime, the turkeys always roost in this area. As soon as it started getting light we could hear them gobbling all around us. So my buddy sent out a few hen calls and two gobbled and they sounded like they were right on top of us. So I looked up and they were roosted 30 yards away from us.All of a sudden we look to the right and a hen is coming in, then one of the roosted birds flys down from the tree and takes about ten steps to an opening, which is 40 yards from me, and I shot him.
What a rush!!!!! We were high fiven' and so happy. He was a Jake but pretty good for my first one. So we get back in the blind and the birds are still very vocal. We call another one in, so its my buddy Daves turn to shoot one. This Tom comes running in, with his beard swingin' from side to side and almost touching the ground. He stops at the same spot mine did, and Dave (first timer and new hunter) was so nervous that he missed.
We seen a couple more birds but nothing came in. That was one of the best mornings I ever had in the woods.
My buddy took all the pic's with his camera, so I will post some when he sends them to me.
