    Question Hanging up.....

What tricks/tips do you guys have or can share for gobblers that get hung up just out of range???

Yesterday morning I took a guy hunting.....and had a bird hang up just 50 yards and he would not come another step closer.....My buddy was shooting a 20 gauge and we was in the timber so a shot was not an option.

This was the first bird I have had in a LONG time hang up on me.....There was a creek between us and him so I know that's why he hung up.

But I have heard of lots of people talking about birds hanging up on them just outside of shooting range.....

SO I was wondering what others did. Thought this might help some other hunters.

    Thanks.

Just had 2 sets of Three Toms do that to me and my dad earlier.
The first bunch we just left alone, they weren't real bigg'n, but nice.
The second Trio was Hot! I had let out 2 clucks and they were coming, fast. Barely had time to sit and get the gear up. But they stayed in the 50-60 yards range and finally fed off an left, still gobbling their fool heads off.
Se we put a move on and got down in a bottom. I called again and they fired back but hung up out there a 100+ yards. My dad grabbed a Gobble Call and was answering my call, they didn't like it as they must have thought someone else had their hot hen. They closed fast again, and came to the 35yrd range this time. That was their limit though, they turned to leave and POW! Tag filled, season done.
He was a smart one, 1 1/4 Spurs so I think he knew the game well and they were wanting the hen to come to them.

That is VERY VERY TRUE!! The game is ol Tom gobbles and struts and the hen come to him.....and we as hunters are doing it a bit backwards.

But the gobbling at him is a good idea.....If your on your own PRIVATE land and no other hunters around.

Last year I had the dominant bird walk off with a bunch of hens. I used my gobble call and he came running back because he thought that some tom was stealing his ladies. Wrong move on his part I have found out that this only works on the dominant bird in that area and other hunter also will go to this call so you have to be careful when you use it.
