    Default PA Opener

Just wondering how everyone did in PA....and whatever other states opened today.

I had one of the worst opening days I can remember...maybe the worst. Heard a few gobblers at first light, none were close, I'm not even sure any of them were on the property we were hunting. We didn't hear a single gobble from 6:15 until 11:00 when we walked out of the woods.

    How did everyone else do?

No luck here either, heard 2 around 6, on the ridge across from me, then nothing the rest of the day..

Lots of gobbling early..............on the other hill a half mile away. Yesterday they were all where I went this morning. Then one lone gobble at 10:30 but he wouldn't fire up.

Had an AWESOME start today for the 2008 season! No bird taken, but had four gobblers sounding off around me! I started off with a hen that I was battling with! She was getting so mad at me mimicking her calls, she hung around for about 30 minutes. Had a gobbler up the mountain just gobbling his head off. I decided that I better get up or near his level. Once I did he just plain went nuts when I started calling. But he hung up again about 100 yards, refused to come any further. I decided again to move. I walked away and up to the top of the mountain, moved in a half circle around his position. Dropped over the side and started calling again. After about three calls and about 200 yards, I sat down. Called some more, and knew he was moving in, gobbling the whole time! Just then a shot rang out, then two more quick shots! I heard the shot hitting the trees to my left. Seems that there was a guy below me and in between me and the bird! From the shots that were fired, I took it that he missed. I ran down, but seen nobody. Funny, he never made a sound and let me do all the calling! Oh well! It still was a great start of the season! I just could not get over how these birds kept gobbling this morning!

Pretty much the same thing for me. Heard one real early but it was way off. I had been hearing the birds all week up until yesterday. They just seemed to shut up. I did manage to call in a coyote though.

Didn't even hear a gobble...heard one hen around 9:30...but I honestly think it was another hunter...hard to tell.

Pretty dull morning for me...heard a few shots in the morning...guessing they were misses. 1 shot...then 2 quick shots...guess first shot was a miss then 2 poke and hope shots.

Try it again Mon. morning, calling for rain all night and tom. here.

Had one fly down off the roost near us just before sunrise and started working him. Someone snuck in off the road between us and the bird and at least got a shot at it. After 7:30 or so it went dead quiet. Kicked up a hen when we were looking around later in the morning.
